The spirit of giving and generosity was in full swing in Kuala Terengganu as 120 orphans and asnaf individuals were treated to a special shopping spree in preparation for the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration. Organized by the Community Service Center of Seberang Takir Constituency, the ‚Shopping Raya‘ program aimed to bring joy and happiness to these children aged between 6 to 14 years old by allowing them to choose their own festive attire at KTCC Mall.
Representing the Seberang Takir State Assemblyman, Khazan Che Mat’s wife, Nik Aini Nik Soh, expressed that the program was designed to provide a sense of excitement and delight to those selected to celebrate Aidilfitri, especially after the recent return to school for these children. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that these children, who may have faced challenges in acquiring festive clothing or necessities at home, are able to experience the joy of the upcoming celebration.
For Izzati Zainuddin, a 34-year-old recipient who has been part of the program for the third consecutive year, the support provided by the organizers has been invaluable. She expressed her gratitude for being chosen as a beneficiary, highlighting how the assistance has helped in preparing for the upcoming festivities. Without this support, she mentioned that it would have been difficult to manage as the clothing from the previous year was no longer usable.
Another beneficiary, Wan Halimatun, a 53-year-old single mother with four school-going children, shared her struggles in meeting the needs of Aidilfitri this year. With the recent flood incidents and the start of the school term coinciding closely with Ramadan, she found it challenging to make ends meet. Previously, with her late husband’s income and pension, she could afford her children’s education expenses. However, with the current circumstances, she has resorted to making and selling snacks to supplement her income. Despite not being able to indulge in luxuries, she expressed gratitude for the support received.
The ‚Shopping Raya‘ program not only provided these children and asnaf individuals with the opportunity to select their festive attire but also served as a reminder of the importance of compassion and community support during festive seasons. The initiative showcased the power of collective efforts in making a positive impact on the lives of those in need, ensuring that everyone can partake in the joy and celebration of Aidilfitri. As the community comes together to uplift and support one another, the true spirit of Aidilfitri shines brightly in Kuala Terengganu.
