N.S. Resettlement Society in search of a new location

The Nova Scotia Resettlement Society is facing a race against time as they urgently need to find a new home. The not-for-profit organization, which has been providing vital settlement support for newcomers and refugees, has been operating out of their Agricola Street storefront for the past two years. However, they have been given notice to vacate the building by the end of August after it was sold.

The Nova Scotia Resettlement Society has been instrumental in helping over three hundred families from conflict-ridden countries such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria, Sudan, Israel, and Gaza. They offer free goods and household items to assist these families in rebuilding their lives from scratch. Many of the newcomers arrive with nothing but a suitcase, making the support provided by the organization invaluable.

Ibrahim Manna, a board member with the Nova Scotia Resettlement Society, expressed the urgency of the situation, stating that they have a mere 14 or 15 days to find a new location. The organization has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for moving expenses and rent once they secure a new space. They are reaching out to the public for assistance in locating a suitable storefront for their operations.

Halifax Regional Municipality Councillor Pam Lovelace, who is also a board member at the society, has been actively involved in the search for a new location. She emphasized the importance of the organization’s work in supporting newcomers as they adjust to life in Nova Scotia. Lovelace mentioned that the board was caught off guard by the short notice to vacate and is now working tirelessly to find a solution.

The Nova Scotia Resettlement Society is not just a furniture shop; it serves as a lifeline for many newcomers in the community. The support they offer goes beyond material goods, providing guidance and assistance in navigating life in a new country. Donations can be made through their GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of relocation and storage.

In conclusion, the Nova Scotia Resettlement Society is in dire need of a new location to continue their important work of supporting newcomers and refugees in the community. The public’s assistance in finding a suitable storefront and contributing to their fundraising efforts is crucial in ensuring that the organization can continue to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need.
