John Thomas, a seasoned educator with over 55 years of experience in the field of education, is embarking on a new journey as the interim superintendent at Clear Fork Schools. As the district gears up for the first day of classes on Aug. 21, Thomas is eager to bring his wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table.
Although new to Clear Fork Schools, Thomas is a familiar face both locally and across the state. Having retired in 2003 after 32 1/2 years of service, he has since served over 200 school districts as an administrator or consultant. His recent stints as an interim superintendent at Lexington Schools, Mansfield City Schools, and Madison Schools have further solidified his reputation as a dedicated and experienced leader.
At 76 years old, Thomas has a one-year contract with Clear Fork Schools and has wasted no time diving into his role. He is conducting interviews with all 205 employees in the district to gather valuable insights on what qualities they believe are essential in the next superintendent. Through his unique approach of riding along with bus drivers and focusing on Change, Add, and Protect (CAP), Thomas is ensuring that every voice is heard in the search for a new leader.
With a background in technology, Thomas plans to compile all the feedback into a comprehensive report, providing valuable data for the district’s hiring process. By involving every staff member in the decision-making process, he aims to create a sense of inclusivity and collaboration within the school community.
Thomas’s approach to leadership is rooted in fostering positive relationships and creating a harmonious work environment. He believes that it is his responsibility as a superintendent to set the tone for how individuals treat each other, emphasizing mutual respect and understanding.
Drawing inspiration from a quote by retired superintendent Paul Imhoff, Thomas is committed to avoiding conflicts and promoting a culture of cooperation within the district. His emphasis on effective communication and teamwork reflects his dedication to creating a supportive and productive work environment for all staff members.
Beyond his role as an educator, Thomas is a history buff and a collector of original movie theater posters. His passion for teaching extends to his personal interests, as he used these artifacts to engage his students in media studies classes. His commitment to education and his innovative teaching methods have left a lasting impact on those he has taught and worked with over the years.
As Thomas navigates his interim role at Clear Fork Schools, his extensive experience, dedication to inclusivity, and passion for education will undoubtedly shape the future of the district. With his energy, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment to excellence, John Thomas is poised to make a lasting impact on the Clear Fork community and beyond.
