Dog with face wrapped in duct tape found and recovering as shelter seeks answers

Employees of an Omaha accounting firm made a shocking discovery when they found Leo, a missing dog, left in a dumpster with his face, paws, and tail covered in duct tape. The Nebraska Humane Society is now seeking help to find out who committed this cruel act of animal abuse.

According to a Facebook post from the shelter on April 15, employees at the accounting firm heard sounds coming from the dumpster on April 14 but did not investigate. The following day, they opened the dumpster expecting to find a raccoon but instead found a small dog with his entire head wrapped in duct tape. Not only was his face covered, but his front and back legs were also taped together, along with tape wrapped around his tail. The poor dog also had food and debris caked in his fur.

The rescuers from the accounting firm acted quickly and called Animal Control for assistance. The officers carefully collected the duct-taped dog and brought him to the Nebraska Humane Society. The shelter’s staff sedated the canine and worked together to remove all the tape covering his body, shaving him to get rid of the debris. Despite the ordeal, the dog perked up and wagged his tail after coming out of sedation.

Fortunately, the dog had a microchip, which led the Nebraska Humane Society to his owner, Erin Dillon-Pasillas. She had reported Leo missing on April 11 and was overjoyed to be reunited with her beloved pet. Leo had likely slipped out while she was taking her son to school, and she had been searching for him ever since.

Erin was emotional upon learning about the abuse Leo endured during his time away from home. Leo is now back with his family, safe and sound, enjoying the comforts of home. Erin described him as the sweetest dog and expressed disbelief at the cruelty he experienced.

The Nebraska Humane Society is asking for anyone with information about how Leo ended up wrapped in duct tape and dumped in a dumpster to come forward. The location where Leo was found had no security cameras, making it difficult to identify the perpetrator. The shelter is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in Leo’s case.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the need to speak out against animal cruelty. Leo’s story highlights the resilience of animals and the dedication of those who work tirelessly to ensure their well-being. Let us all stand together against such acts of cruelty and work towards a world where all animals are treated with love and respect.
