Highwire Coffee opens new location in Walnut Creek

Highwire Coffee, a beloved East Bay-based coffee house chain with Oakland roots, recently kicked off the soft launch of its newest location in Walnut Creek on July 22. Situated inside The Waymark, a trendy apartment complex just outside the Walnut Creek BART entrance, this marks Highwire’s first venture east of the Caldecott Tunnel. The opening of this new location has been highly anticipated by coffee enthusiasts in the area, eager to experience the unique offerings that Highwire has become known for.

Co-owner Robert Myers shared that at the Walnut Creek location, there is a special emphasis on providing cold and refreshing drinks to cater to the warmer climate on this side of the tunnel. With temperatures soaring, customers can cool off with a variety of cold beverages, including a seasonal iced lavender latte and the „Cruel Summer“ iced tea, a delightful twist on the classic Arnold Palmer. Additionally, the cafe offers cold sparkling tea drinks to quench your thirst on a hot day. To complement these beverages, Highwire sources its pastries from renowned bakeries such as Starter Bakery and Third Culture Bakery, known for their delectable croissants, viennoiserie, and mochi-based treats. Chai lovers will also appreciate the chai sourced from Tipu’s Chai, adding a touch of spice to their coffee experience.

The inception of Highwire Coffee dates back to 2011 when Myers, along with Rich Avella and Eric Hashimoto (who has since retired), decided to create a coffee house that offered high-quality brews in a welcoming and unpretentious environment. Drawing inspiration from their time working together at Peet’s in the 1990s, the trio sought to strike a balance between the dark roasts popularized by Starbucks and the lighter roasts gaining traction in the coffee scene. The name „Highwire“ symbolizes the delicate balance they aimed to achieve, providing top-notch coffee without the exclusivity often associated with specialty coffee shops.

Myers expressed his desire for Highwire to be a place where everyone feels welcome, whether they are coffee aficionados or simply looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a cup of joe with loved ones. The laid-back atmosphere and friendly service at Highwire Coffee reflect this vision, making it a favorite gathering spot for locals and visitors alike.

If you’re eager to experience the charm of Highwire Coffee in Walnut Creek, you can visit their new location on weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weekends from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cafe is conveniently located at 200 Station Way, just outside the Walnut Creek BART station at the Waymark Transit Village. In conclusion, Highwire Coffee’s expansion to Walnut Creek brings a taste of Oakland’s vibrant coffee culture to the East Bay, offering a unique blend of quality brews, delectable pastries, and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re a coffee connoisseur or simply looking for a cozy cafe to unwind, Highwire Coffee promises a delightful experience for all. Don’t miss the opportunity to savor their signature drinks and treats at their newest location in Walnut Creek.
