TDS Telecom to transfer ownership of Texas cable operations

TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) recently announced a significant development in its operations with the signing of a purchase agreement with Poka Lambro Telecommunications, Ltd. and Nevill Holdings, Inc. The agreement involves the transfer of ownership of TDS‘ cable operations in Texas, specifically in the areas of Seminole, Seagraves, Denver City, Alpine, and Fort Stockton. This strategic move is expected to enhance the telecommunications landscape in these regions and provide customers with improved services and connectivity.

Poka Lambro Telecommunications, Ltd., a company with a rich history dating back to 1950, has been a key player in providing telephone services to rural farms and ranches in Texas. Over the years, Poka Lambro has expanded its offerings to include broadband internet and telecommunications services, serving a vast area of the south plains of Texas with cutting-edge fiber-to-the-premise facilities. The company’s commitment to delivering high-quality services has made it a trusted provider in the region, catering to both residential and business customers.

On the other hand, Nevill Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Big Bend Telephone Company and Big Bend Telecom Ltd. (BBT), has been a stalwart in connecting and serving rural communities in West Texas for more than six decades. With a focus on bridging the digital divide, BBT offers a range of services including high-speed fiber internet, voice, and data center solutions to residents, institutions, and businesses. The acquisition of TDS‘ cable properties in Alpine and Fort Stockton will further strengthen BBT’s presence in the region and enable it to continue its mission of providing innovative connectivity solutions to rural areas.

TDS, a well-established telecommunications company based in Madison, Wisconsin, has been operating in Texas since 2013 following the acquisition of Baja Broadband, LLC. By transferring ownership of its cable operations in Texas to Poka Lambro and Nevill Holdings, Inc., TDS is streamlining its operations and focusing on its core business areas. The agreement also includes the transfer of eight local TDS Field Service associates to the acquiring companies, ensuring a smooth transition for both employees and customers.

In a statement regarding the agreement, TDS President and CEO Jim Butman expressed confidence that customers will continue to receive the same level of quality service they have come to expect. He emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting its associates during the transition to the new companies. Similarly, Rusty Moore, General Manager and COO of BBT, and Patrick Sherrill, CEO of Poka Lambro, expressed excitement about welcoming TDS customers and associates into their respective organizations. They highlighted their commitment to providing exceptional service and innovative solutions to the communities they serve.

The acquisition of TDS‘ cable operations in Texas is a strategic move that aligns with the companies‘ missions to enhance connectivity and deliver top-notch services to customers. With the support of Charlesmead Advisors, LLC as advisors to the buyers on the transaction, Poka Lambro and Nevill Holdings, Inc. are well-positioned to integrate the newly acquired properties seamlessly into their existing service territories.

Overall, this agreement marks a significant milestone in the telecommunications industry, with TDS Telecom, Poka Lambro, and BBT working together to create a better world through their communications services. As the transaction progresses and the transfer of ownership is finalized, customers can look forward to continued excellence in service and connectivity in the Texas region.
