The Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) has made an arrest in connection with the tragic death of a nearly 2-year-old child who was left inside a hot car. 33-year-old Hilda Ann Adame has been taken into custody and is facing serious charges related to the incident.
According to the CCPD Blotter, Adame was transported from the school where the incident occurred to the main police station for questioning. Following the interview, she was then taken to the City Detention Center for booking. Adame has been charged with injury to a child, serious bodily injury, and abandon/endanger child, imminent bodily injury.

The tragic events unfolded when the Corpus Christi Fire Department received a distressing call about a child left inside a hot car at Tom Browne Middle School on Schanen Boulevard. The call came in around 1:29 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders found a school nurse administering CPR to the 22-month-old child. The child was quickly transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital, but unfortunately, despite efforts to save the toddler, the child later succumbed to the extreme heat.
CCPD is actively investigating the incident, trying to piece together the events that led to this heartbreaking outcome. It remains unclear how long the child was left unattended in the car. Senior Officer Antonio Contreras informed KRIS 6 News that several witnesses were taken to the police station for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
In response to the tragedy, Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD) released a statement expressing gratitude to all those who responded swiftly to the crisis. The district is offering counseling services to staff and students affected by the incident and is asking for privacy and compassion during this difficult time.
CCISD and school officials are cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues. The district’s crisis counseling team will be on-site to provide support to those in need. The community is urged to show kindness and understanding, especially towards the family of the child involved.
