Mother begs for assistance following son’s fatal shooting at Los Angeles gas station – NBC Los Angeles

The tragic death of Marquette Scott, a father of four children who was shot and killed at a Los Angeles gas station, has left his family devastated and seeking justice. The incident occurred on December 3, 2023, as Scott was on his way back to Victorville after shopping for Christmas gifts in the South Los Angeles area. His mother, Melanie Gammage, recalled the last conversation she had with her son before he was fatally shot.

Scott had stopped at a gas station in the Vermont Knolls area to refuel his SUV, which had his children’s car seats inside. He was seated next to a fuel pump when a white Jeep Compass pulled in front of his vehicle. A masked individual emerged from the rear seat of the Jeep and opened fire into Scott’s SUV. A second shooter fired from the parking lot, resulting in Scott’s tragic death at the scene.

The crime scene photos revealed the special edition Spider-man Sony Playstation 5 that Scott had purchased for one of his children. Gammage expressed the immense loss felt by the family, especially during the holiday season. Despite their grief, they attempted to celebrate Christmas, but the absence of Scott cast a shadow over the festivities.

At a news conference with LAPD investigators, Gammage shared pictures of her son and his children, including a drawing by one of his daughters depicting their sadness over his passing. She described Scott as a loving and happy person who adored his children. The family’s pain was palpable as they sought justice for his senseless murder.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, with authorities treating it as a random act of violence. LAPD Capt. Jamie Bennett urged the community to come together and assist in identifying the perpetrators captured in the gas station’s security camera footage. A $50,000 reward was offered for information leading to the resolution of the case.

The LAPD provided contact information for individuals with details about the shooting, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in solving the crime. Gammage’s plea for justice resonated with those touched by the tragedy, highlighting the impact of gun violence on families and communities. The search for answers continues as Scott’s loved ones navigate their grief and honor his memory.
