IPOH: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has recently issued a directive to local authorities (PBT) to crack down on individuals who litter by throwing trash out of their vehicles. This move comes in response to the circulation of several photos showing piles of rubbish scattered along the roadside, prompting local authorities‘ workers to undertake extensive cleaning efforts.
Minister Nga Kor Ming emphasized the importance of holding litterbugs accountable for their actions by issuing fines and ensuring that they pay up. He stressed that strict action will be taken against those who disregard proper waste disposal practices. Nga highlighted the shared responsibility of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces, urging all parties to play their part in upholding environmental standards.
„We all received education on civic responsibility during our school years. It is incumbent upon each of us to uphold cleanliness in public areas, rather than solely relying on PBT workers to clean up after us,“ Nga remarked during a Meriah Beraya event at a shopping center. He also expressed concern for the well-being of PBT workers who are toiling under the scorching sun to keep public areas clean.
In light of the upcoming Aidilfitri celebrations, Nga disclosed that KPKT has deployed its resources to ensure public cleanliness. He underscored the need for individuals to dispose of their rubbish properly in designated bins, rather than littering indiscriminately. Nga urged people to exercise consideration by keeping their trash in their vehicles until they reach a suitable disposal point.
The issue of littering has gained traction on social media, with photos depicting food and beverage packaging strewn along the road from Kuala Lipis, Pahang to Gua Musang, Kelantan. These images have sparked outrage among netizens, underscoring the urgency of addressing the problem of littering in public spaces.
In a gesture of goodwill, Nga distributed Aidilfitri donation vouchers totaling RM22,500 to 150 families in the Kepayang state constituency. This initiative aimed to provide assistance to underprivileged families during the festive season, underscoring the importance of community support and solidarity.
In conclusion, the crackdown on littering serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to preserve the cleanliness of public spaces. By taking proactive measures to address littering and promote environmental stewardship, we can create a cleaner and more sustainable environment for all. Let us all do our part in keeping our surroundings clean and pristine for the benefit of present and future generations.
