The Facets of Resilience conference, scheduled for 21–23 November 2022 at The Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, is set to be a gathering of leading international and national academics and experts focusing on the topic of social resilience. The conference aims to delve into the various layers and practical applications of social resilience, providing participants with insights into the principles of general resilience theory, the relevance of resilience in different areas today, and specific practices that can strengthen social resilience.

The three-day event will feature a diverse range of formats for interaction, including lectures, panel discussions, participatory workshops, an artistic performance, and open space sessions. The conference will cover a wide array of topics related to social resilience, such as the resilience of democracy, paradigm shifts in the Anthropocene, transformations of communities, organizations, and norms, sources of social resilience like trust, meaning, and communication, social cohesion, care, human rights, poverty, dignity, and the role of living culture in promoting social resilience.

The conference program is structured to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of social resilience from different perspectives. Day 1 will kick off with a keynote speech by David Chandler from the University of Westminster, followed by panel discussions on democratic resilience, paradigmatic shifts in the Anthropocene, and transforming communities, organizations, and norms. The day will conclude with an evening reception for networking and informal discussions.

Day 2 will feature a keynote speech by Kateřina Šimáčková from the European Court of Human Rights, followed by panel discussions on the resilience of democratic institutions, sources of social resilience like trust, meaning, and communication, and social cohesion, care, and human rights. The day will also include a performance lecture titled „Propojme se včera“ (Connect Yesterday), exploring the theme of social resilience through art.

Day 3 will wrap up the conference with a closing round table and discussion, where participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the key insights and takeaways from the event. Additionally, there will be participatory workshops throughout the conference, focusing on specific topics like strengthening societal resilience in the context of climate and biodiversity crisis, addressing economic uncertainty, and exploring the city through the eyes of a regional train passenger.

The conference will also feature graphic facilitation by Kristýna Hrubanová, capturing the dynamics and content of the proceedings in a visual form. For those unable to attend in person, the conference will be live-streamed on YouTube.

For any logistical queries, participants can reach out to the conference organizers via the official conference email or contact the conference manager directly. The Programme Directors, Assoc. Prof. Alice Koubová and PhDr. Petra Guasti, will be overseeing the event and ensuring a fruitful and engaging experience for all attendees.

In conclusion, the Facets of Resilience conference promises to be a thought-provoking and insightful event, bringing together experts and practitioners to explore the multifaceted nature of social resilience and develop strategies for building a more resilient society in the face of contemporary challenges.
