Prime Minister introduces new education TV channel called DidikTV KPM (Updated)

In a move to increase access to quality education for students nationwide, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin launched a special terrestrial Education TV channel, DidikTV Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (DidikTV KPM) on February 17. The channel, which started airing on channel 107 on MYTV, 147 on ASTRO, and ntv7 on TV UNIFI, will be available from 7 am to midnight daily.

The establishment of DidikTV KPM is part of the Ministry of Education’s efforts to provide educational content to students, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The channel will broadcast programs based on the ministry’s curriculum and co-curriculum, as well as news on the world of education from pre-school to Form 6. Additionally, edutainment programs and student-generated content will also be featured on the channel.

In his speech, Prime Minister Muhyiddin highlighted that DidikTV KPM will play a crucial role in supporting home-based teaching and learning (PdPR), particularly for students who do not have access to online education. Parents are encouraged to watch the channel with their children to enhance their learning experience.

Since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March last year, the Ministry of Education has been working to provide educational access to students through television broadcasts. The closure of schools during the MCO period has posed challenges for face-to-face teaching and learning, making initiatives like DidikTV KPM essential for students‘ continued education.

Muhyiddin commended the efforts of teachers who have been instrumental in delivering quality educational content through programs like ‚Road to Success SPM 2020′ on ntv7. The program, which features experienced teachers discussing techniques to answer Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam questions, has been well-received by students preparing for their exams.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence in the skills and expertise of teachers to deliver learning content creatively, acknowledging their dedication to educating students in any situation. He emphasized the importance of providing educational opportunities to over five million students, ensuring they acquire the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for their future.

In conclusion, the launch of DidikTV KPM marks a significant step towards enhancing educational access for students across Malaysia. The channel’s diverse programming, including curriculum-based content, edutainment programs, and student-generated content, will play a vital role in supporting students‘ learning journey during these challenging times. Congratulations to the Ministry of Education and all teachers involved in this commendable initiative.
