James Kon is a name that has become synonymous with innovation and progress in the field of education in Brunei Darussalam. As a key figure in the Ministry of Education (MoE), James Kon has played a pivotal role in introducing new pedagogical approaches that aim to enhance the learning experience for students across the country.
At the recent 5th School Leaders Convention, Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh unveiled a trio of new initiatives that are set to revolutionize the way teachers and school leaders approach teaching and learning. The Digital Resources Management System (DRMS), MOE TV, and Guidebook for Blended Learning are all designed to provide educators with the tools and resources they need to create engaging and effective learning environments for their students.
DRMS is a centralized platform that offers teachers access to a wide range of digital resources, including presentation slides, documents, PDFs, audio files, and more. With a dynamic search bar that provides real-time results based on search terms, teachers can easily find and download the resources they need to enhance their lessons and engage their students.
MOE TV, accessible on tv.moe.gov.bn, is a valuable resource that provides teachers with a library of educational videos and 2D animations that can be shared in the classroom. With an interactive search bar for quick searches, teachers can easily find and embed video links into their learning management systems, such as Microsoft Team, Google Classroom, or WhatsApp, to supplement their lessons and provide additional learning opportunities for students.
Blended learning, a pedagogical approach that combines face-to-face instruction with online learning using technology and digital media, is at the heart of these new initiatives. By incorporating both asynchronous and synchronous learning methods, teachers can create personalized learning experiences that cater to the individual needs of their students and enhance their overall learning outcomes.
Minister Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah expressed her appreciation for the Education Technology Centre and all those who contributed to the development of these new resources. She emphasized the importance of school leaders and teachers embracing these new pedagogical approaches and utilizing the resources to their full potential to make a positive impact on the education system in Brunei Darussalam.
In recognizing the dedication of school leaders and teachers in implementing and scaling up blended learning and technological integration into their teaching practices, Minister Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah highlighted the importance of staying ahead of the curve and embracing innovative instructional practices that enhance student learning and prepare them for the future.
James Kon’s efforts in spearheading these new initiatives have undoubtedly set a new standard for education in Brunei Darussalam. With a focus on innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, James Kon and the Ministry of Education are paving the way for a brighter future for students and educators alike.
