Škoda Auto, a Czech automobile manufacturer, had a successful year in terms of production in 2023. The company produced over 888,000 vehicles worldwide, an increase of approximately 108,000 vehicles compared to the previous year. The majority of these vehicles, more than 781,000, were manufactured at the company’s Czech plants in Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny. Additionally, over 52,000 vehicles were produced at the company’s Indian facilities.
One of the significant achievements for Škoda Auto in 2023 was the production of more than 313,000 battery systems for fully electric vehicles on the MEB platform and plug-in hybrid vehicles for its parent company, Volkswagen. The company’s production network included 11 manufacturing sites globally, with plans to expand further. In October, preparations began for the resumption of production in Kazakhstan, and in September, the company entered the Vietnamese market, where it will complete a production line this year.
Andreas Dick, a member of Škoda’s board of directors responsible for production and logistics, expressed pride in the company’s ability to adapt quickly to the changing global environment. He emphasized the commitment to customers, the Škoda brand, and the Volkswagen Group. The company’s expansion into new markets and the addition of local production facilities were highlighted as key steps in increasing global manufacturing capacity.
The main plant in Mladá Boleslav played a crucial role in the company’s production output, with approximately 556,000 vehicles from various model lines rolling off the assembly lines. The plant also produced over 349,000 manual transmissions, 1.7 million axles, and nearly 470,000 EA211 engines, which are used in vehicles across the Volkswagen Group.
In addition to vehicle production, the Mladá Boleslav plant started manufacturing batteries for fully electric vehicles in 2022. In 2023, the plant produced over 165,000 battery systems for MEB electric vehicles and 147,000 battery systems for plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The Kvasiny plant contributed to the production of 225,000 vehicles, including models such as Karoq, Kodiaq, Superb, and Superb iV. The Vrchlabí plant manufactured 686,066 DQ200 direct-shift automatic transmissions, which are used in Škoda models and other Volkswagen Group vehicles.
In Bratislava, over 36,000 SUVs and the first few hundred units of the new-generation Superb model were produced. The relocation of Superb production to Bratislava will create capacity in the Kvasiny plant for Octavia production starting this summer.
Škoda’s global production footprint extended to China, India, and Ukraine, with significant production volumes in each country. The company’s presence in these markets reflects its commitment to meeting the growing demand for its vehicles worldwide.
Overall, Škoda Auto employs over 40,000 people globally and offers a diverse range of 11 model lines. The company’s focus on innovation and expansion has led to an increase in vehicle deliveries by 18.5% in 2023, totaling 866,800 units. With plans to introduce new electric models like the Elroq, Škoda Auto is poised for continued growth and success in the automotive industry.
