The Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 was recently launched by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, setting out a vision for the state to become a leading digital economy and society by 2030. This blueprint is a crucial part of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, aiming to leverage technology and innovation to drive economic growth and societal development in Sarawak.
Abang Johari emphasized that the blueprint builds upon the existing Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy 2018-2022 and serves as the cornerstone of the state’s development plans. It aims to transform the economy from a conventional resource-based model to a technology-based one, ensuring that Sarawak remains competitive and sustainable in the digital era.
One of the key goals of the blueprint is to inspire businesses to innovate and adopt new technologies, fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and creativity. It also seeks to empower individuals to thrive in the digital economy, creating opportunities for all segments of society to benefit from technological advancements.
Digital infrastructure plays a crucial role in achieving the blueprint’s objectives, with a focus on expanding internet coverage and connectivity, especially in rural areas. Sarawak is investing in the construction of telecommunication towers to ensure widespread internet penetration throughout the state, with a target of 99.9% coverage by 2030.
Strategic investments are also essential for driving economic growth and job creation in Sarawak. The government is working closely with the private sector to support start-ups and encourage investment in innovative ventures. The establishment of the Malaysian Business Angel Network (MBAN) Sarawak is a step towards fostering collaboration between investors and entrepreneurs, creating a conducive ecosystem for business development.
Abang Johari highlighted Sarawak’s strengths as a potential investment hub, citing its strategic location and competitive advantages. The state aims to increase its GDP growth rate and household income significantly by 2030, positioning itself as a key player in the regional economy.
The launch of the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 marks a significant milestone in the state’s journey towards becoming a digital powerhouse. With a clear vision and strategic initiatives in place, Sarawak is poised to embrace the opportunities of the digital age and drive sustainable growth and development for its people.
