The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) in Thailand is making significant strides in the agricultural sector with the implementation of the 1 Tambon 1 Digital (Chumchon Drone Jai) Project. This initiative aims to revolutionize farming practices by introducing agricultural drones to enhance production efficiency and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the country. With a goal of involving 500 communities in utilizing agricultural drones, depa is committed to providing the necessary training and resources to empower farmers to embrace this innovative technology.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President and CEO of depa, highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and depa to drive the 1 Tambon 1 Digital Project forward. By partnering with public and private networks, depa is working towards creating a digital ecosystem that will benefit farmers and communities nationwide. The project focuses on utilizing domestically produced agricultural drone technology that meets depa’s dSURE standards, ensuring quality and reliability in the drones provided to farmers.
The recent delivery of the first batch of agricultural drones to 86 communities in 22 provinces marks a significant milestone for the project. These drones will enable farmers to enhance their production processes, reduce costs, and minimize labor while also improving the overall quality of their crops. In addition to providing the drones, depa is also conducting extensive drone flight training and maintenance programs to equip farmers with the necessary skills to operate the drones effectively.
The trainings offered by depa include theoretical sessions led by expert instructors and practical sessions where farmers can gain hands-on experience in operating agricultural drones. By upskilling at least 1,000 farmers and community members to become drone service providers within a year, depa aims to expand the use of agricultural drones to 500 communities, benefiting over 10,000 households and covering more than 4 million rai of agricultural land. This ambitious goal demonstrates depa’s commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
