UNAIR students embrace the challenges of online learning with a positive perspective

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought about significant changes in various aspects of life, including the education system at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). With the shift to online or blended learning, the entire academic community has had to adapt to these new conditions in order to prevent the spread of the virus. While this transition has presented challenges, there are also positive aspects that can be gleaned from the experiences of UNAIR students.

One such student is Halfie Zaqiyah Gusti Puspitasari, a nursing undergraduate student, who has found that online learning has provided her with a wealth of new experiences. Despite the limitations on movement, Halfie believes that online learning has brought about new perspectives and opportunities for self-development. She notes that the flexibility of online learning has allowed her to engage in new relationships and participate in international events, ultimately broadening her horizons.

Similarly, Alfina Rossa, a Communication Science undergraduate student, has found enjoyment in online learning, despite the increased workload. She appreciates the opportunity to connect with individuals who may not have been accessible during traditional classes, as her department frequently hosts webinars with lecturers from other universities or abroad.

For Zanna Afia Deswari, an Information and Library Science undergraduate student, online lectures have introduced a variety of assignments that go beyond traditional papers or reviews. Students are now tasked with creating videos, podcasts, and other projects that foster creativity and skill development. Zanna acknowledges the efforts of the campus, lecturers, and fellow students in adapting to online learning and sees it as an opportunity for growth and learning.

Lucke Putri Anjani, a Law student, has found that online learning has made her more familiar with technology. While she appreciates the organization of learning activities, she notes that there are areas for improvement, such as the performance of online platforms like AULA. Similarly, Candra Rizal Sabili, a senior Law student, has become more cautious during online exams due to concerns about unstable internet connections and technical issues.

Farhan Fahrudin Subianto, an Aquaculture undergraduate student, has also faced challenges with online learning, particularly in accessing support from lecturers and grappling with unstable internet connections. He highlights the difficulty in absorbing knowledge effectively and the lack of strict supervision leading to a sense of irresponsibility among students.

In conclusion, while online learning has presented its share of challenges, it has also offered unique opportunities for growth and development. UNAIR students have demonstrated resilience and adaptability in navigating these changes, and their experiences serve as valuable lessons for the future of education. As the world continues to evolve, it is essential for students to remain proactive and engaged in their learning journey.
