The recent Ayodhya gangrape case has sent shockwaves through the community, with the alleged perpetrator being identified as a prominent leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Moyid Khan. The incident took place in a shopping complex in the Yantaraangam area of Ayodhya district, where bulldozers and excavators were used to demolish a building worth approximately Rs. 3 crore in order to cover up the crime. The heavy security measures taken during the demolition raised suspicions and led to further investigations.
The case involves the gangrape of a 12-year-old girl, which led to the arrest of Moyid Khan and his assistant Raju Khan on July 30. Additionally, victims of minor gangrape incidents were found to be undergoing Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) procedures at a hospital in Lucknow on August 7. Following the arrest of Moyid Khan, another illegal construction of 3,000 square feet of building was demolished using bulldozers at the beginning of the month.
The revenue department raised concerns about the legality of the shopping complex construction, prompting Moyid Khan to be served with a show-cause notice for unauthorized construction. The Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) and SDM Sohawal were involved in the demolition of the complex based on a report submitted by the revenue department. It was also revealed that Moyid Khan was under scrutiny for other illegal assets, including land associated with a primary school.
Authorities confirmed that the unauthorized shopping complex was completely demolished, with the Punjab National Bank (PNB) facing legal consequences for their involvement in the construction. Three bulldozers, an excavator, and several police stations were mobilized to the scene of the incident on Thursday. Additional District Magistrate Satyendra Singh and SDM Ashok Kumar Saini oversaw the demolitions, while the Chairman of the Municipal Council, along with the accused’s relative Rasheed, faced police inquiries for their involvement in tampering with evidence.
SDM Ashok Kumar Saini reported that Rasheed had been encroaching on land meant for a primary school, prompting demands from the BJP district president for investigations into illegal tenders and activities. The Ayodhya police initiated strict actions, including DNA testing, to gather concrete evidence in the case. An official stated, „DNA tests provide conclusive evidence,“ indicating progress in the investigation.
