Nari Hira, Founder of Marketing & Advertising News, ET BrandEquity, Dies

Nari Hira, also known as Mr. Stardust, was a veteran advertiser and film producer who left a lasting impact on the Indian media industry. His career began in the advertising agency ‚Creative Unit‘, where he met copywriter Shobhaa De. Together, they embarked on a journey to revolutionize film journalism in India by creating the iconic magazine ‚Stardust‘.

Shobhaa De fondly remembers Hira as ‚extraordinarily gutsy‘ and a legend in the industry. She credits him for creating new rules and breaking boundaries, ultimately shaping the landscape of media in India. Hira’s business acumen and dynamism as a publisher of a large media group set him apart from his peers, allowing him to survive and thrive for over 50 years in a constantly evolving industry.

In addition to ‚Stardust‘, Hira founded Magna Publishing, which went on to publish a range of monthly magazines such as Society, Society Interiors, Health & Nutrition, Savvy, and Citadel. These publications became synonymous with quality journalism and set a high standard for film reporting in the country. Hira’s vision and leadership were instrumental in the success of these magazines, solidifying his reputation as a pioneer in the field.

During the mid-1980s, Hira ventured into the world of video films, launching the careers of actors like Aditya Pancholi and Urmila Matondkar. With the establishment of Magna Films, he sought to challenge industry norms by producing adult content films exclusively for DVD distribution. This bold move showcased Hira’s willingness to take risks and push boundaries, further cementing his legacy as a trailblazer in the Indian film industry.

Nari Hira’s contributions to the media landscape in India are immeasurable. His innovative approach to journalism and film production has left an indelible mark on the industry, inspiring future generations of media professionals to think outside the box and strive for excellence. As we mourn the loss of a visionary leader, we also celebrate his enduring legacy and the impact he has had on the world of media and entertainment.
