Students and educators prioritize teaching and schools more in Kosovo – KosovaPress

The recent study conducted by the Institute EdGuard shed light on the preferences of both teachers and students when it comes to the teaching process and schools. The research aimed to fill the information gap regarding online learning, the impact of the pandemic on education, and the return to schools. A total of 523 elementary school students and 312 elementary school teachers were part of the study, providing valuable insights into the current educational landscape.

One of the key findings of the study was that 97% of teachers considered the decision to return to school appropriate. This indicates a high level of confidence among educators regarding the safety and effectiveness of in-person learning. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the majority of teachers expressed a positive attitude towards resuming physical classes, emphasizing the importance of face-to-face interaction in the learning process.

Interestingly, 72% of teachers believed that teaching should continue through physical presence in schools. This highlights the value placed on traditional classroom settings and the role they play in facilitating effective learning experiences. While online learning has become more prevalent due to the pandemic, the majority of teachers expressed a preference for in-person instruction, citing its benefits in terms of student engagement and academic performance.

Moreover, the study revealed that both teachers and students felt safe in schools despite the ongoing pandemic. This sense of security is crucial in ensuring a conducive learning environment where students can thrive academically. The findings also indicated that the majority of students had access to technology at home, with 76% using phones for educational purposes, underscoring the importance of digital resources in supporting remote learning.

Another significant discovery was the decrease in reading habits among students, with a 33% decline in the number of books read compared to the previous year. This highlights the need for interventions to promote literacy and encourage a culture of reading among students, both in school and at home.

In light of these findings, the study recommended the continuation of physical presence in classrooms to enhance the quality of education and support student learning. The Minister of Education and Science, Rame Ljikaj, expressed his commitment to improving educational facilities and ensuring a successful second half of the academic year. He emphasized the importance of adapting to the current circumstances and implementing effective teaching strategies to meet the needs of students and teachers.

In conclusion, the study conducted by the Institute EdGuard provides valuable insights into the attitudes and preferences of teachers and students towards the teaching process and schools. By addressing key issues such as the return to in-person learning, the impact of the pandemic on education, and the promotion of reading habits, the research offers valuable recommendations for enhancing the educational experience in challenging times. It is essential for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders to take these findings into account and work towards creating a supportive and engaging learning environment for all students.
