TikTok Shop, as one of the fastest-growing e-commerce platforms, has been making waves in the US market. With a user base of 1.7 billion active users in the country, TikTok has become a powerhouse in the e-commerce industry. Despite potential bans and challenges, the platform’s GMV (Gross Merchandise Volume) continues to soar, reaching nearly $5 billion in June. ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has shifted its focus to the US market, putting a hold on e-commerce expansion in other regions like Europe and Latin America.

In an effort to support sellers and boost sales, TikTok Shop has rolled out various initiatives since June. These include subsidies and resources to help sellers navigate the upcoming peak shopping season in the second half of the year. The platform introduced the „Billion Yuan Club“ policy for cross-border sellers operating in the US market, offering five operational benefits. Additionally, the „US Cross-Border New Business Launch Plan“ was launched in early July, easing entry requirements for Chinese mainland and Hong Kong-based businesses with experience on platforms like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart.

The strategies implemented by TikTok Shop have already shown significant results. During the mid-year promotion that ended on July 11th, multiple platform records were broken once again. These initiatives, combined with the recently released US Cross-Border Peak Season Operating Strategy, provide sellers with clear growth guidelines and momentum for the upcoming peak season.

Analyzing the overall data for TikTok Shop in the US, the GMV for June showed a steady growth, reaching $4.96 billion with a 2.27% month-on-month increase. The top 15 best-selling categories in June remained consistent with previous months, with Beauty and Personal Care leading the pack, followed by Women’s Clothing and Health. Notably, Men’s Clothing saw a surge in sales by over 70% in June, ranking ninth among the top-selling categories.

For the first time this year, Textiles and Soft Home Furnishings made their debut on the list, ranking fifteenth with sales of $7.5-8 million. Several home-related categories, including Home Appliances, Household Goods, Kitchenware, and Furniture, also made the list, indicating a growing interest in home-related products.

Comparing the data from June 2024 to September 2023, the sales growth for categories like Home, Health, Household Appliances, Textiles, and Soft Home Furnishings exceeded 100 times. The Furniture category saw a growth of over 560 times, while Health grew nearly 300 times.

In terms of the top 20 best-selling small stores, seven were in the Health category, four in Beauty and Personal Care, three in Women’s Clothing, two in Home Appliances, and one each in Furniture and Tools and Hardware. Micro Ingredients maintained its position as the top-selling small store for the second consecutive month, while Voweek, a store specializing in home appliances, entered the list for the first time.

Overall, TikTok Shop’s success in the US market can be attributed to its strategic initiatives, support for sellers, and a diverse range of products that cater to the preferences of American consumers. With a focus on localization and seller empowerment, TikTok Shop is poised for continued growth and success in the e-commerce landscape.
