Geddes, N.Y. — Sunday at the New York State Fair was a day filled with Irish music and festivities. The unofficial Irish Day brought in a crowd of 78,341 visitors who were treated to a lively session at Chevy Court hosted by The Elders, a Celtic band from Kansas City. The music drew in more and more folks as the day went on, creating a festive atmosphere that had fairgoers tapping their feet and clapping along.
As the day turned into evening, the Dropkick Murphys took the stage at Suburban Park for the night’s last concert. Thousands of fans gathered to enjoy the energetic performance, making it a memorable end to a day filled with music and fun.
Law Enforcement Day was also observed at the fair, with active and retired officers receiving free admission by flashing their badge. A special tribute was set up at Tommy C’s, a longtime food and drink stand, in honor of the two law enforcement officers who were tragically gunned down in April. The stand raised money for their families, with proceeds from the sale of a specially created beer going towards supporting the families of the fallen officers.
Fairgoers showed their support for the fundraiser by purchasing the special beer, with even a group of state troopers buying an entire case. The outpouring of support was heartwarming, and by the end of the day, Tommy C’s had run out of the special beer and had to order more for the following day.
In terms of food and drink, the fair offered a variety of options for visitors to enjoy. One standout dish was the chiktay from Petu, a traditional Haitian dish made with shredded cod, peppers, onions, and spices served on bread. This flavorful and unique dish was a hit among fairgoers, offering a taste of something different amidst the usual fair fare.
For dessert, Goodway Gourmet Rum Cakes provided a sweet treat with their delicious rum cakes. The cakes, available in flavors like coconut and black raspberry, were a hit with visitors looking for a tasty indulgence to end their meal.
In terms of beverages, the Rohrbach Oktoberfest was a popular choice at the Beer Garden. The smooth amber beauty was a favorite among fairgoers, offering a taste of fall in the late summer days.
Overall, Sunday at the New York State Fair was a day filled with music, food, and community support. From the lively performances at Chevy Court to the delicious food offerings and special fundraisers, the day was a celebration of Irish culture, good food, and coming together to support those in need. With more events and concerts lined up for the following days, fairgoers can look forward to more fun and excitement at the fair.
