Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Expands the ID. Buzz Model Range with Five New Electric Vans
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is making waves in the electric vehicle market by expanding its ID. Buzz model range with five new models, including an AWD variant and a base version priced below €50,000. Following the debut of the rear-wheel-drive ID. Buzz with a long wheelbase, five additional models have now been added to the lineup: the all-wheel-drive ID. Buzz GTX with short and long wheelbases, offering a choice of 79 or 86 kWh batteries, the ID. Buzz Cargo as an AWD 4MOTION version with a 79 kWh battery, and two new entry-level models, ID. Buzz Pure and Freestyle, both powered by a new 59 kWh battery.
The new AWD version, named „4MOTION,“ boasts an impressive system power of 340 PS, allowing the vehicle to tow trailers weighing up to 1,800 kg. Pre-sales for the GTX models and the all-wheel-drive Cargo start today, August 21st. According to VW Commercial Vehicles, the new base models Pure and Freestyle will be available for online ordering and configuration from September 3rd.
The Volkswagen Buzz with a long wheelbase and up to seven seats has been in production in Hanover for several weeks now. In this version, the wheelbase has been extended by 25 centimeters to 3.25 meters, making the length 4.96 meters instead of 4.71 meters. Like the Buzz with the short wheelbase, the long-wheelbase version uses the APP0550 motor with 285 PS.
However, the long-wheelbase version features an 86 kWh battery for up to 487 kilometers of range, according to WLTP. The short-wheelbase version has a 79 kWh battery, with a maximum WLTP range of 461 kilometers. The permissible total weight of the long-wheelbase version is increased from 3,000 to 3,125 kg.
With the Pure and Freestyle versions, VW Commercial Vehicles is now expanding the range downwards. The duo is significantly cheaper (Pure: from €54,127, Freestyle: from €49,998) but has also been technically „trimmed down.“ For example, the manufacturer introduces a smaller 59 kWh battery in the new base versions. The rear-wheel-drive has an output of 170 PS and a reduced range of 330 km according to WLTP. The DC charging power has also been reduced to 165 kW.
There are differences between the two variants in terms of equipment: the Buzz Freestyle is characterized by black cladding on the lower part of the doors, dark-colored bumpers, and 18-inch wheels with silver full covers. The typical color is „Candy white.“
The new Pure version positioned above this is on par with the Pro models in terms of factory-fitted assistance systems. The standard equipment also includes features such as automatic air conditioning, folding tables on the backs of the front seats, LED headlights and taillights.
Volkswagen is launching the GTX in the two lengths described above. The small version houses the 79 kWh battery, and the large version the 86 kWh battery. In both cases, the sporty MEB van features a second electric motor on the front axle, achieving a power of 340 PS. The new top models have ranges of 423 and 475 kilometers respectively, and cost from €73,102 and €74,928.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles emphasizes the „exclusive exterior and interior equipment“ of the GTX and highlights that the model is designed for performance and high trailer loads. The Buzz GTX with a 79 kWh battery accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. The maximum towing capacity is up to 1,800 kg (braked, on a 12% incline).
The Cargo version can be configured and ordered from €50,355. However, this is the net price. Including 19% VAT, the price will be €59,922. The Cargo with AWD has a power of 340 PS like the GTX models but only offers the option of a 79 kWh battery for a range of up to 432 km. Continuous current charging is possible with up to 185 kW, and the maximum towing capacity of 1,800 kg applies here as well.
