In a proactive response to the ongoing crisis caused by natural disasters in Bangladesh, the mobile phone operator Grameenphone has joined hands with the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to provide urgent assistance to those affected. According to a press release sent out by Grameenphone on Thursday (August 22), the collaboration aims to deliver essential food supplies to 10,000 families in the disaster-prone areas in partnership with BDRCS.
The initiative also includes plans to ensure access to safe drinking water by setting up five water treatment plants in the affected regions. Additionally, Grameenphone will arrange for five mobile medical teams to provide necessary healthcare services based on the prevailing conditions in the area.
Head of Grameenphone, Mr. Farhana Islam, expressed the company’s commitment to standing by the side of the community in times of crisis. He stated, "In such challenging circumstances, Grameenphone believes in supporting the people in need. Along with the steps taken by our company, we have also initiated a fund collection from our employees to provide voluntary assistance to the affected individuals. This personal support will be utilized for the benefit of the distressed individuals. We are dedicated to standing by the side of the people in need in society at all times."
Dr. M. You Kabir Choudhury, Chairman of BDRCS, emphasized the importance of the collaboration with Grameenphone in providing timely assistance and support to those affected by the disasters. He stated, "Due to the wild nature, several dangerous situations have arisen in some regions of the country. It is very important for us to stand by the side of the affected individuals during disasters and provide necessary assistance and relief in a timely manner. Our partnership with Grameenphone is crucial in this regard."
The press release further informed that Grameenphone is providing free 10 minutes and 500 MB internet to the affected areas in Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Maulvibazar, Khagrachhari, Habiganj, Chandpur, Lakshmipur, Rangamati, Brahmanbaria, and Chittagong to ensure uninterrupted communication for the affected individuals. Customers can avail of this offer by dialing 1215050# with a validity of 3 days. Moreover, in disaster-prone areas, nearby operational Grameenphone sites are providing the opportunity to charge mobile phones.
