Top NYC chefs bring gourmet food and drink experiences to US Open tennis fans

The 2024 US Open Tennis Championships are not only a showcase of world-class tennis talent but also a culinary extravaganza for hungry fans. With more than 20 chefs offering their signature dishes at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, there is no shortage of delicious options to satisfy any craving.

One of the key players in this culinary lineup is Chef Jim Abbey of Levy, the venue’s hospitality partner. With 19 years of experience as the head chef at the US Open, Abbey and his team are dedicated to providing fans with a true New York experience through a variety of food and drink offerings.

Among the standout restaurants participating in this year’s event is Carnegie Deli, known for its iconic overstuffed corned beef and pastrami sandwiches. After a hiatus of several years, Carnegie Deli is back to delight fans with its classic deli fare.

Making its debut at the US Open is Coqodaq, an elevated Korean fried chicken concept operated by restaurateur Simon Kim. Guests can indulge in the restaurant’s signature Golden Nugget, a fried chicken tender topped with caviar, showcasing the fusion of flavors and creativity that defines the culinary scene at the tournament.

In a touching tribute to the late chef James Kent, the USTA honored his request for his restaurant group to have a concession stand at the event. Crown Shy’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich is now part of the culinary lineup, serving as a reminder of Kent’s passion for food and his love for the US Open.

Returning chefs such as Ed Brown, Kwame Onwuachi, Masaharu Morimoto, David Burke, Alex Guarnaschelli, Pat LaFrieda, and Josh Capon bring their culinary talents to the table, offering a diverse range of dishes from sushi and sashimi to pasta and prime steaks. With options to meet every budget, fans can enjoy everything from fast-casual global dishes to premium ice cream from Van Leeuwen.

To complement the delectable food offerings, the US Open also features a signature cocktail called the Honey Deuce. This refreshing mix of vodka, lemonade, and raspberry liqueur garnished with honeydew melon balls has become a staple at the tournament, complete with a commemorative glass for fans to take home as a memento.

Overall, the culinary experience at the 2024 US Open is a testament to the creativity, talent, and passion of the chefs involved. From classic deli sandwiches to elevated Korean fried chicken and everything in between, there is something for every palate to enjoy while watching the thrilling tennis matches unfold on the courts of Queens.
