The Indonesian Ministry of Defense has recently signed a contract with Republikorp, a private arms company in Indonesia, for the procurement of Çakir Surface-to-Surface Missiles and Sungur Air Defense Missiles. These missiles are produced by a Turkish arms company and will now be manufactured in Indonesia. The signing ceremony was attended by top officials including Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto and Secretary of Turkish Defence Industries Haluk Görgün, showcasing the importance of this collaboration.
This partnership marks a significant step towards building a self-reliant national defense industry, as stated in a press release by the Ministry of Defense. Not only will this collaboration boost the domestic defense industry, but it will also strengthen Indonesia’s position in the international defense arena. By producing these advanced missiles locally, Indonesia is taking a big leap towards enhancing its defense capabilities and reducing dependency on foreign suppliers.
In addition to the missile procurement agreement, Republikorp Indonesia also signed a framework agreement with Aselsan and Roketsan, two Turkish arms companies. Norman Joesoef, representing Republikorp, signed agreements with Aselsan for the production of Remote Controlled Weapon Systems (RCWS) and with Roketsan for the establishment of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities for missiles such as ÇAKIR, ATMACA, and HISAR.
Over the past five years, Republikorp has forged strategic partnerships with various global companies, including LIG Nex1 from South Korea for missile production and technology transfer, as well as partners from Slovakia for the development of the TURRA 30 turret from EVPU. These collaborations have not only enhanced Indonesia’s military capabilities but also demonstrated Republikorp’s commitment to diversifying defense technology.
Republikorp has also expanded its partnerships with two Italian companies, Drass Galeazzi for the assembly of mini submarines and autonomous vessels, and Fiocchi Munizioni for ammunition production. These initiatives are part of Republikorp’s efforts towards self-sufficiency in defense supplies and creating stronger diplomatic ties.
This year, Republikorp has embarked on a new era by contributing to the manufacturing of defense industries through the construction of facilities in Subang. These facilities are at the forefront of innovation and sustainability in the development of weapons, ammunition, and modern electric tactical vehicles designed to meet the future needs of the Indonesian National Armed Forces.
With strategic partnerships and increasing investments, Indonesia is on the right path to becoming a self-reliant and robust defense force in the region. The collaboration with Republikorp and other international companies signifies a promising future for Indonesia’s defense industry and its role in global defense diplomacy.
