On September 28, 2024, the Riga Chess School’s lichess.org club hosted its regular classification tournaments for beginners, 4th, and 3rd sports classes. These tournaments are a great opportunity for chess enthusiasts to test their skills and compete against others in a friendly and competitive environment.
In the 3rd sports class tournament, 46 participants battled it out for the top spots. Emil Dale emerged victorious, securing 1st place with 7 points in 8 games. Maxim Voitovich followed closely behind in 2nd place with 6.5 points. The 3rd to 6th places were tied with 6 points each, with Timur Trapeznikov, Mikhail Vasilyev, Elizabeth Anna Luse, and Arturs Jansons all achieving this feat. It’s worth noting that all of these players also earned their 2nd sports class title, showcasing their dedication and skill in the game.
Moving on to the beginners‘ tournament, 47 participants took part, with 12 of them meeting the criteria for the 4th sports class norm (at least 5 points in 8 games). Andrejs Prucevs claimed the top spot with 7 points, followed by Sergejs Pavlovs and Sergejs Firksers in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, both with 6 points. These players demonstrated their potential and determination to improve their chess skills.
In the 4th sports class tournament, 61 players competed for the top honors. Roberts Umbrasko emerged as the winner with 7.5 points in 8 games, showcasing his strategic prowess on the board. Rudolfs Apinis secured 2nd place with 6.5 points, while Danila Klokeļs claimed 3rd place with 6 points and better tiebreakers. These players displayed their tactical acumen and determination to succeed in the competitive chess arena.
