In the second week of October, Latvia saw a decrease in the number of new Covid-19 patients admitted to hospitals. According to data from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC), 64 new Covid-19 patients were hospitalized during this period, which is 17 patients fewer than the previous week when there were 81 patients in hospitals.
Mid-October saw a total of 109 Covid-19 patients receiving treatment in hospitals, with 70 of them having Covid-19 as their primary diagnosis, accounting for 64.2% of the total patients. Two patients were in critical condition during this time, a decrease of five patients compared to the previous week.
Additionally, 84 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed through laboratory testing in the second week of October, marking a decrease of 15 cases compared to the previous week when 99 new infections were detected. The positivity rate for Covid-19 samples was 9.1%, which was 2.6 percentage points lower than the previous week. A total of 923 tests were conducted during this period, showing an increase of 8.8% compared to the previous week’s 848 tests.
The data reflects a positive trend in the fight against Covid-19 in Latvia, with a decrease in new hospitalizations and confirmed cases. This could be attributed to various factors, including public health measures, increased testing, and possibly the impact of vaccination efforts.
It is essential for the public to continue following health guidelines, getting vaccinated, and staying informed about the evolving situation. By working together and remaining vigilant, we can overcome the challenges posed by the pandemic and strive towards a healthier and safer future for all.
