Komponistene bak GRIS og Neva forklarer hvorfor de foretrekker å skape musikk til spill fremfor film

Nomada Studios‘ award-winning game, GRIS, featured music from Berlinist, an indie band from Barcelona that has gained more visibility thanks to the game. The band has reunited with Nomada for their latest game, Neva, but they have also created music for other video games, such as the RPG game Worldless.

At a preview event for Neva in Barcelona, we had the pleasure of speaking with Marco Albano, one of Berlinist’s main members, who shared why he prefers creating music for video games over films.

When asked if they would consider composing music for a film, he mentioned that they would be open to it, but they prefer video games: „We really love making music for films, but video games, with their interactive elements and the fact that it is not a passive medium, that you can play with it, is a bit more interesting for us.“

Albano admitted that they love playing video games and that they enjoy the feeling of the music enhancing the gaming experience. „When the music helps you during a gaming session of your favorite game, it is something that truly satisfies us as individuals.“

„It’s a before and after GRIS: Berlinist reflects on how the game changed their career.“

GRIS, released in 2018, was a turning point for the band, who released their first song in 2012. „It changed us a lot because there is a before and an after GRIS. It was our first experience working in the video game industry as composers, and it made us love video games much more than before.“

„We already loved video games before GRIS, but now, being a part of them, it is something very special to create a soundtrack, and it is a privilege to work on a soundtrack for a game like this,“ he continued.

Albano shared how Neva’s music differs from GRIS‘, being more dynamic this time due to the combat in the game. Their other recent game, Worldless, features more electronic music compared to GRIS. He also mentioned that they are planning a concert for next year.

Below, you can watch the full interview with Berlinist’s Marco Albano, composer for GRIS and Neva, and learn more about our thoughts on the new game from Nomada Studio.
