When it comes to building Lego sets, I have always been a fan of the Lego Creator Expert/Icons cars. However, after almost completing all of them, I decided to explore some alternatives. That’s when I came across the Cobi 24339 1970 Opel Manta A set. Cobi has a series of cars in a 1:12 scale, which is roughly the same size as the Creator Expert/Icons series.
I recently finished building the Cobi Opel Manta A, and I must say, the quality of Cobi’s bricks is quite good. While the fit may not be as perfect as Lego, it is still pretty close. However, I did find that building with Cobi bricks was a bit tougher on my fingers compared to Lego. One thing I noticed is that Cobi seems to have even more special pieces than Lego, perhaps even a bit too many. Some pieces look very similar, with the only difference being the thickness of the material. It definitely requires more attention to detail!
The box of the Cobi set is smaller than its Lego counterpart, but it still contains some interesting facts about the real model. One thing I appreciated about the Cobi set is that it only uses printed parts, with no stickers involved.
The instruction manual for the Cobi set is a bit different from Lego’s. It only shows the pieces that need to be assembled in their correct colors. This particular set came with six bags, each containing several smaller bags with a good number of pieces in each.
One thing that stood out to me while building the Cobi Opel Manta A was the lack of color variety. The first bag mostly contained black pieces, with a few light gray and one dark gray piece. It was definitely a change from the vibrant colors I’m used to with Lego sets.
Overall, my experience with the Cobi 24339 1970 Opel Manta A set was a positive one. While it may not have the same level of precision and ease of building as Lego, it still provided a fun and challenging building experience. If you’re looking to expand your collection beyond Lego, Cobi sets are definitely worth considering. Who knows, you might just discover a new favorite building experience!
