The search for Suzanne Simpson, a mother of four children who went missing in Texas, continues as her husband’s lawyer dismisses the accusations against him as „ridiculous.“
Suzanne Simpson, a 51-year-old luxury real estate agent, has been missing for over two weeks. The 22-year-old teenager disappeared on October 6 after a fight with her husband in Olmos Park, San Antonio.
Brad Simpson’s court-appointed lawyer, Steven Gilmore, stated that she has been administratively isolated and confined in her cell for at least 23 hours a day, as reported by the San Antonio Express-News.
Gilmore told the outlet that Brad Simpson intends to plead not guilty. He referred to the case against Simpson as a „charade to incapacitate him – to detain him.“
On the evening of Sunday, October 6, a „disturbance“ occurred between the Simpsons at Argyle, a club in the San Antonio area, said Olmos Park Police Chief Fidel Villegas at a previous press conference.
A neighbor reported to the police that they saw Brad and Suzanne physically fighting that night and then heard screams from the nearby wooded area, according to the arrest statement.
The neighbor observed that „Ms. Simpson was trying to free herself from Mr. Simpson’s embrace as he attempted to pull her down,“ the report continued. About an hour later, the neighbors saw Brad Simpson’s black GMC pickup truck leave and return one or two hours later.
Gilmore told the San Antonio Express-News that the neighborhood’s account is not credible.
„It doesn’t make sense,“ he said. „If he had enough money to leave the house with a flashlight and go into the woods, he’s the kind of person who has enough money to call the police, yet he didn’t. Not only did he not call the police, he didn’t even call the police. Don’t talk to Suzanne after she went missing, they didn’t get a statement from her until the guards went and talked to her.“
Brad Simpson, 53, remains in Bexar County Jail on a combined bond of $2 million on charges of assault causing bodily injury, domestic violence, and unlawful restraint stemming from the October 6 incident with his wife.
„It’s truly ridiculous that he’s being held on a $2 million bond for minor offenses that the state knows can’t and won’t be tried,“ Gilmore told the San Antonio outlet. „They won’t even try these cases. And they don’t want to try these cases, because if they try these cases, all his rights will be lost. Until these cases are resolved, we can’t. Call for a speedy trial.“
Ted Williams, a lawyer and former homicide detective, previously told Fox News Digital that „$2 million for corruption is something very, very rarely done. The only reason it’s done is because they’re trying to keep him in jail. While they’re doing their recovery operation, then they’ll know.“
Police attempted to interview Brad, but he was „uncooperative,“ Villegas said.
„Brad’s refusal to cooperate is unacceptable,“ wrote Suzanne’s brother-in-law, Burton Simpson, in a Facebook post.
„It’s usually when someone is not involved in criminal activity, they will voluntarily speak to law enforcement,“ Williams previously told Fox News Digital. „But if the person feels that law enforcement specifically suspects them of being involved in criminal activity, like his wife, Suzanne Simpson, being involved in some dirty deed, then it’s understandable, he won’t talk to them. He hires a lawyer or he won’t talk to them.“
Gilmore told the San Antonio Express-News that Brad Simpson tried to cooperate with Olmos Park police and was the first to report his wife missing. He said Brad Simpson agreed to speak with Villegas, but the chief postponed the appointment three times.
Brad Simpson is being held behind bars by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, a federal inmate on charges of firearm possession. The federal charges are for illegal possession of firearms, according to a written statement obtained by Fox News Digital.
Investigators searched Simpson’s home in Olmos Park on October 9 after obtaining a search warrant in connection with his wife’s disappearance. On October 10, a family member informed law enforcement that Simpson had several firearms they wanted to surrender.
The family member took some short-barreled rifles from a locked room in Simpson’s home and then brought the firearms to the Olmos Park Police Department, according to records.
Suzanne Simpson’s search at the local landfill has ended as no evidence of her disappearance was found there last week, said Sergeant Deon Cockrell of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Olmos Park Mayor Erin Harrison said the search for Simpson „will now focus on Olmos Park and the surrounding wooded areas,“ reported KSAT.
Suzanne was last seen wearing black clothing on October 6 at 11 p.m. in the 500 East Olms block in Olms Park. She is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs around 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
