The Community Women Leader of Ojoto Akanasato Progressive Union, Women Wing, Hon Mrs Anthonia Okonkwo, recently expressed her admiration for the impactful initiatives of Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Governor of Anambra State. Dr. Soludo’s pet project, ‚Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo‘, has been instrumental in implementing life-changing programs that have positively impacted the residents of Anambra State.
During the 2024 General August Women meeting held at the Town Hall in Ojoto, Idemili South LGA, Mrs Okonkwo commended Dr. Soludo for actively involving all Community Women Leaders in the state in her programs. She highlighted the importance of Dr. Soludo’s efforts in promoting health and well-being among women, youths, and all residents of Anambra State.
One of the recent initiatives launched by Dr. Soludo was ‚Operation Clean Anambra of Substance Abuse‘, aimed at addressing the rampant issue of drug abuse among the youth in the state. Mrs Okonkwo emphasized the need for communities to work together to combat the peddling and consumption of illicit drugs, which have led to devastating consequences such as violence, mental health issues, and family breakdowns.
In addition to addressing substance abuse, ‚Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo‘ promotes the importance of regular exercise and healthy living practices to prevent illnesses and maintain overall well-being. Mrs Okonkwo highlighted the significance of owning a garden as a means of fighting hunger and enhancing livelihoods, especially in uncertain times.
Mrs Okonkwo also praised Governor Charles Soludo for his administration’s initiatives, including free education for primary and junior secondary school students, free antenatal and delivery services for women, and ongoing infrastructural development projects in Anambra State. She commended the Transition Chairman of Idemili South LGA, Hon Mrs Amaka Obi, for her efforts in empowering women and youths through skill acquisition programs.
During the August women meeting, Mrs Okonkwo announced plans to empower indigent women from Ojoto Community and establish a mini tissue production factory to create employment opportunities and generate revenue for the women’s association. She called on the community to support these initiatives by contributing to the fundraising efforts, with a target of 10 million naira to kickstart the projects.
In closing, Mrs Okonkwo urged the women to prioritize God in their lives, stay united, and pursue peace. The event was marked by the launch of the August meeting cake, led by dignitaries including Rt Hon. Harris Uche Okonkwo, the Federal House of Representatives Member for Idemili North & South Constituency.
Overall, the efforts of Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo and the collaborative spirit of the women leaders in Anambra State demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of residents and building a healthier, more prosperous community for all.
