Amazon introduces electric delivery vehicles

In a time where companies are increasingly pledging to be more eco-friendly, Amazon is making big strides to reduce their carbon footprint. One of the major players in the country, Amazon is rolling out more electric delivery vehicles (EDVs) as part of their commitment to be carbon neutral by 2040. These EDVs have advanced security functions to protect both the driver and the packages they are delivering.

You may have noticed more electronic delivery vehicles from Amazon in your neighborhood. From the Amazon facility to your very own street, Amazon drivers are using EDVs to deliver packages in a more environmentally friendly manner. The trucks are equipped with state-of-the-art features that make the job easier for drivers like Aaron Helms.

Helms, an Amazon driver, appreciates the dual screens in the EDV that allow him to have multiple ways of seeing everything without constantly looking at his phone. The vehicle also includes safety features such as automatically closing the dividing door each time the driver leaves the vehicle, ensuring the security of the packages inside.

For site lead Kurt Wainscott, the focus has been on improving driver sentiment and ensuring that the EDVs are built with the drivers in mind. The vehicles are designed to make the job easier and more efficient for the drivers, ultimately contributing to Amazon’s goal of being carbon neutral by 2040.

Amazon is committed to matching 100% of the electricity consumed across its operations and aims to have 100,000 electric delivery vehicles on the road by 2030. In 2023, EDVs drove over 130 million miles with zero-tailpipe emissions, making a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions. In Cincinnati alone, 100 EDVs are on the roads, delivering thousands of packages each day.

As Aaron Helms navigates the streets of Cincinnati in his futuristic EDV, he is not only making his job simpler but also contributing to a more sustainable future. With Amazon’s focus on innovation and sustainability, the use of electric delivery vehicles is a key component in their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and make a positive impact on the environment.
