RCPD Investigates 5 Thefts Over the Weekend, 4 Involving Vehicles

Over the weekend, the Riley County Police Department (RCPD) in Manhattan, Kansas, dealt with a series of theft incidents, with a total of five reported cases. Among these thefts, four were related to vehicle theft, with one vehicle being recovered by authorities.

The first incident occurred on August 9, 2024, in the 900 block of Walnut Street in Riley. A 30-year-old female reported her vehicle stolen after an unknown suspect was captured on video taking her car overnight without permission. The estimated loss associated with this theft was $8,000.

On August 11, 2024, another theft was reported in the 100 block of Bluemont Ave. at Wal-Mart. A known suspect left the store without paying for $1,420.68 worth of merchandise, leading to a theft report being filed by officers.

In the same day, officers responded to a motor vehicle theft in the 700 block of Allison Ave. Four victims were listed in this incident, as their 2016 black Nissan Altima was stolen with various items inside, including an iPad, Airpods, military gear, and tools. The total loss for the contents of the vehicle was approximately $3,500, while the vehicle itself was valued at over $11,000.

A moped theft was reported on August 11, 2024, in the 800 block of Kearney Street. A 20-year-old male reported his 2002 Honda Elite 80 Moped stolen from his backyard, with a total loss estimated at $1,200.

Later that same day, a motor vehicle theft was reported in the 400 block of Knox Lane, where a 24-year-old male reported his 2010 silver Honda Accord stolen by an unknown subject. The total loss associated with this theft was approximately $12,000.

Anyone with information regarding these theft incidents is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers. By using Crime Stoppers, individuals can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

In conclusion, the Riley County Police Department in Manhattan, Kansas, has been actively investigating and responding to theft incidents in the area.
