Tesla has issued a massive recall of over 1.8 million vehicles in the US due to a software issue that can fail to detect an unlatched hood. This poses a serious safety risk as an unlatched hood can potentially fly open while driving, causing accidents and injuries. The recall affects a wide range of Tesla models, highlighting the importance of addressing this issue promptly to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
In addition to the Tesla recall, Ford has also issued a do-not-drive advisory for owners of certain vehicles who have not had them repaired under three past safety recalls. These recalls, identified as 15S21, 17S42, and 19S01, involve Takata airbag inflators that have the potential to explode and expel sharp metal fragments during a crash. This poses a significant risk of serious injury or death for the occupants of the vehicle.
The vehicles affected by the do-not-drive advisory include 2004-2006 Ford Ranger trucks, 2005-2014 Ford Mustang vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles, 2006-2012 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ/Zephyr vehicles, 2007-2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles, and 2007-2011 Ford Ranger trucks. Ford is urging owners of these vehicles to have them repaired immediately to prevent any potential safety hazards.
Ford has made efforts to contact customers about these recalls, with over 121 million outreach attempts in the US and a completion rate of over 95% for US customers. There are approximately 374,300 airbag inflators in Ford and Lincoln vehicles impacted in the US, with a total of 765,600 affected globally. Ford has stated that parts are available for repair, and customers can request mobile service or have their vehicles towed to the dealership for repairs. Dealerships will also provide free interim loaner vehicles during the repair process if necessary.
