Spate of car burglaries reported at busy hotels in Deerfield Township

Vehicle break-ins have been a recurring issue at hotels and apartment complexes along Fields Ertel Road near Interstate 71 in Deerfield Township, Ohio. However, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office has recently noted a concerning increase in car smash-and-grabs at two specific hotels in the area – Drury Inn and Hampton Inn.

According to Sgt. Tom Naumovski, approximately 10 vehicles had their windows smashed and items stolen at these hotels after 5 a.m. on a Monday, right after the extra overnight patrol had ended. The spike in break-ins is believed to be linked to the influx of guests due to events like the tennis tournament and country music concert in West Chester over the weekend.

The perpetrators behind these crimes seem to be targeting specific items such as firearms, credit cards, and money. While no guns were reported stolen on Monday, there was a close call where a gun was left in plain sight in a vehicle but was not taken by the suspects.

To prevent falling victim to such incidents, hotel guests are advised to take certain precautions. These include securing their vehicles by rolling up windows, locking doors, and setting car alarms. It is crucial not to leave any valuables visible inside the car, especially firearms, and to keep electronic devices and accessories out of sight to avoid attracting thieves.

Furthermore, guests should take all valuables into their hotel room and utilize the safes provided by the hotels to store their belongings securely. Parking in well-lit, busy areas with high pedestrian and vehicle traffic is recommended, while avoiding secluded spots that are hidden from view.

In the unfortunate event of a car break-in, individuals are urged to immediately report the incident to the authorities. This allows for the review of surveillance footage in the area to potentially identify the suspects. In Warren County, incidents can be reported to 911 or 513-695-2525, even if nothing was stolen.

By following these safety measures and staying vigilant, hotel guests can reduce the risk of falling victim to car break-ins and theft. It is essential to prioritize personal safety and take proactive steps to protect oneself and belongings while traveling.
