Mullen Automotive, Inc. is making waves in the electric vehicle (EV) industry with its recent commercial EV purchase by the University of Virginia (UVA). This marks UVA’s second EV purchase, following on the heels of a previous order from 2023. The order for Mullen’s Class 1 EV cargo van, the Mullen ONE, will be fulfilled by Randy Marion Automotive Group in North Carolina, showcasing the growing demand for Mullen’s electric commercial vehicles.
The decision by UVA to incorporate Mullen’s commercial vehicles into its fleet aligns with the university’s sustainability goals. UVA is actively working towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and reducing nitrogen losses by 30% by 2030. With a significant portion of its Facilities Management vehicles already battery-powered and supported by charging stations, UVA has seen a 275% increase in electric vehicle usage from 2020 to 2023, highlighting the university’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
David Michery, CEO and chairman at Mullen Automotive, expressed pride in partnering with UVA to support their sustainability initiatives. The Mullen ONE was chosen for its zero-emission operation, efficiency, and compact design, making it an ideal fit for the demands of campus life. This partnership represents a major step forward for UVA in its journey towards sustainability and reduced carbon emissions.
Mullen’s commercial EV lineup includes the Mullen ONE and the Mullen THREE, a Class 3 EV cab chassis truck designed for urban last-mile delivery. Both vehicles are fully compliant with U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the California Air Resources Board certifications, ensuring adherence to clean air emissions standards.
In addition to the UVA purchase, Mullen has recently received incentives for its vehicles, such as a $15,000 incentive for the Mullen THREE through the State of Massachusetts MOR-EV program and a $45,000 cash rebate voucher through the California Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Program (HVIP). The Mullen ONE is also eligible for a $3,500 MOR-EV incentive in Massachusetts, further incentivizing the adoption of Mullen’s electric vehicles.
The University of Virginia, known for its distinguished faculty and commitment to research and sustainability, continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in higher education. By partnering with Mullen Automotive, UVA is taking concrete steps towards a more sustainable future, demonstrating its dedication to initiatives that shape the institution for years to come.
Overall, Mullen Automotive’s collaboration with the University of Virginia highlights the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the higher education sector and underscores the company’s commitment to providing innovative and sustainable transportation solutions. With a focus on reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental stewardship, Mullen is paving the way for a cleaner and greener future in the automotive industry.
