Goodlettsville Little League’s Kevin Spain recently shared his thoughts on the Southeast Region final before his team faced off against Florida with a trip to the Little League World Series on the line. The 2024 Little League World Series is currently underway in South Williamsport, Pa., featuring eight teams competing in a double-elimination tournament.
This year, the tournament includes ten international teams and ten U.S. squads. The international teams consist of champions from regions such as the Caribbean, Mexico, Asia-Pacific, Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Europe-Africa. On the other hand, the U.S. teams represent regions like New England, West, Southeast, Midwest, Metro, Mountain, Southwest, and Mid-Atlantic. Notably, U.S. teams have secured the last six Little League World Series titles.
The tournament kicked off with exciting matchups, including two no-hitters on the opening day. Teams like Japan, Puerto Rico, Metro, Mountain, Cuba, Europe-Africa, Southwest, and Mid-Atlantic made their debut on the field, hoping to make a mark in the competition.
In one of the games, Nevada’s pitcher Wyatt Erickson faced off against New York, starting off with a walk but quickly regaining control with two strikeouts and a groundout. The game ended early due to the 10-run mercy rule, showcasing the dominance of the winning team.
