Consultants acting on behalf of the singer have submitted details of alterations to his original plans, which include the construction of a two-storey, two-bedroom guest lodge and gym at his property in Oldfort.
The planning application also outlines the addition of an adjoining structure for recreation space and storage, as well as a new wastewater treatment system. In addition, the proposal involves the demolition of existing storage and machinery sheds on the property, which are said to be in poor condition and no longer fit for purpose.
According to a planning consultant representing Hozier, the new structures will provide the singer with dry, safe, and energy-efficient accommodation ancillary to his main house. Changes to the initial development plans have been made in response to requests for further information from Wicklow County Council, addressing concerns raised by planning officials.
One of the key issues raised by the council was the need for ancillary buildings of such scale in a rural area. Hozier’s consultant explained that the total floor area had been reduced to 237sqm, largely sitting on the existing footprint of the original buildings. The recreational space is intended for private use, such as watching films and playing indoor sports with small groups of friends, rather than for public access.
The council also questioned the necessity of the guest accommodation, citing concerns about its compliance with the settlement strategy outlined in the Wicklow County Development Plan. In response, Hozier’s consultant clarified that the accommodation is required for an on-site worker responsible for maintaining the property.
Further revisions to the plans include the removal of the proposed wastewater treatment system and adjustments to the brickwork, following feedback from the council. Archaeological and arboriculture reports have also been commissioned to assess the impact of the development on the surrounding area.
This latest planning application marks the third attempt by Hozier to secure permission for the guest lodge within the past year. Previous applications were deemed invalid due to technicalities such as missing details on site notices and public notices. A decision on the current application is expected in the coming weeks.
