The inauguration of the board of the Rule of Law Enforcement Authority in Oyo State, under the leadership of Acting Governor Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, marks a significant step towards securing the lives and property of residents in the state. The establishment of the Rule of Law Enforcement Authority is a crucial component of the Omituntun 2.0 Agenda, which is the administration’s roadmap for sustainable development from 2023 to 2027. This authority is tasked with coordinating and implementing the provisions of Oyo State laws and regulations related to health and environmental standards, asset management, road traffic safety, and maintenance. By enforcing these laws, the authority aims to promote social order, protect individual rights, and create an environment where freedom and opportunity can thrive.
In his address during the inauguration ceremony, Acting Governor Lawal emphasized the importance of effective law enforcement in not only deterring crime but also preventing it through education and community partnerships. He highlighted the role of the Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development (OMASED) in public orientation and advocacy on socio-economic issues, including state laws. The Rule of Law Enforcement Authority is expected to collaborate closely with OMASED and other government agencies to fulfill its mandate effectively.
The newly-inaugurated governing board, led by Justice Aderonke Aderemi (rtd), comprises key officials such as the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Commissioner for Agriculture, and the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority. These members are tasked with enforcing environmental sanitation laws, anti-grazing regulations, and traffic laws to ensure compliance and promote a safer and cleaner environment for residents.
Justice Aderemi (rtd) reiterated the board’s commitment to enforcing existing laws and regulations that are often disregarded by the public. She emphasized the importance of upholding environmental standards, traffic regulations, and anti-grazing laws to maintain order and protect the well-being of the community. The board is determined to carry out its duties diligently and ensure that residents adhere to the laws in place for the greater good of society.
