Acura recently debuted the Performance EV Concept during Monterey Car Week, giving a sneak peek at the company’s upcoming electric SUV that will join its lineup next year. This concept is a significant step for Acura, as it will be the first EV off Honda’s new EV platform developed in-house. The design themes showcased in this concept will also be seen across future Acura vehicles, according to head of design Dave Marek.
The Performance EV Concept is set to be on display at The Quail and the concept lawn during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This SUV features a fast roofline reminiscent of the 2010–2013 ZDX, with blacked-out pillars and roof to create a dramatic two-tone effect. Marek highlights key design elements such as the vented hood, prominent diagonal body-side feature, and rounded contouring that will be carried over to upcoming Acura models.
While Acura has not released specific dimensions for the concept, Marek mentions that the rear liftgate will feature the A-C-U-R-A branding, a design element that will be shared by all of the company’s electrified vehicles. The production version of this concept will be the first EV on Honda’s new EV architecture and will be built in the company’s new hub for electric-vehicle production in southern Ohio. This new facility is part of a $700 million overhaul of Honda’s final-assembly factories in Marysville and East Liberty, along with its engine plant in Anna. The production version of the Performance EV Concept is expected to hit the road in late 2025.
Overall, Acura’s Performance EV Concept represents a significant milestone for the company as it ventures into the world of electric vehicles. With a focus on innovative design elements and cutting-edge technology, Acura is poised to make a mark in the EV market with its upcoming lineup of electrified vehicles. Stay tuned for more updates on Acura’s electrification journey as they continue to push the boundaries of automotive design and performance.
