The study conducted by PGS, TS. Phan Thị Thu Hoài and her team from the Marketing Department at the University of Commerce aimed to identify and evaluate the factors influencing the quality of online learning. The research involved surveying 136 students studying at universities in Hanoi who were enrolled in online English courses. The study focused on three main factors that positively impact the quality of online learning: online learning experience, awareness of interest, and technical background of learners.
Quality in education has always been a significant concern globally, especially with the increasing shift towards online learning. The nature of online education brings about unique challenges that can affect the quality of education and may not be familiar to learners. Therefore, understanding the factors that influence the quality of online learning is crucial for enhancing the overall learning experience and increasing learners‘ readiness to accept online education.
The study defined quality in online learning as the integration of knowledge, skills, and attitudes developed during the online learning process to meet the training objectives and responsibilities after completing the course. Quality in online learning is influenced by various factors related to learners, instructors, support from educational institutions, equipment, and physical conditions. In this study, the focus was on factors related to learners and their impact on the quality of online learning, specifically the experience, interest, and technical background of learners.
The research hypotheses were formulated based on these factors:
1. Experience has a positive impact on the quality of online learning.
2. Awareness of interest positively influences the quality of online learning.
3. Technical background has a positive effect on the quality of online learning.
The study employed a survey method to collect data from the participants, and the results were analyzed using various statistical techniques. The findings indicated that all three factors – experience, interest, and technical background – had a significant positive impact on the quality of online learning. The study also highlighted the importance of enhancing these factors to improve the overall quality of online education.
To improve the quality of online learning, the study suggested several solutions. Enhancing learners‘ awareness of the benefits of online learning, providing guidance on online learning methods, and creating engaging teaching methods were recommended to increase learners‘ interest and motivation. Establishing online learning experiences for learners, especially those new to online education, and addressing technical issues to ensure a smooth learning process were also emphasized as essential steps to enhance the quality of online learning.
In conclusion, the study shed light on the critical factors influencing the quality of online learning and provided valuable insights for educators and institutions to enhance the online learning experience. By focusing on improving learners‘ experiences, interests, and technical skills, educational institutions can elevate the quality of online education and better meet the needs of learners in the digital age.
