The Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual steak fry at the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport, where they not only celebrated the business community but also honored outstanding teachers and students. The event served as a platform to recognize the hard work and dedication of educators in the Ohio Valley, as well as to support students on their academic journey.
Three teachers were honored as the chamber’s teachers of the year: Mia Huck from Richie Elementary, Abby Reeves from Triadelphia Middle School, and Betsy Knorr from Wheeling Central Catholic High School. These educators were grateful for the recognition and expressed their appreciation for being valued by the community. Mia Huck mentioned how important it is for teachers to be acknowledged for their efforts, while Abby Reeves highlighted the significance of community support for educators. Betsy Knorr shared how the award reaffirmed her passion for teaching and the positive impact she has on her students.
In addition to honoring teachers, the chamber also announced two scholarship winners at the event. Isaac Schmitt, a graduate of Wheeling Central, and Jared Marsh, a graduate of Wheeling Park High School, each received a $1,000 scholarship. Isaac Schmitt expressed his gratitude for the support and opportunity provided by the Chamber of Commerce and Williams Lea, while Jared Marsh, who was unable to attend the event due to a baseball commitment, was also recognized for his achievement.
The scholarship winners are embarking on their academic journeys, with Isaac Schmitt planning to major in biology/pre-med at West Virginia University. The scholarships not only provide financial assistance but also serve as a testament to the community’s investment in the education and future success of its youth. The support and recognition given to these students and teachers highlight the strong sense of community and collaboration within the Wheeling area.
The event was attended by around 160 people, showcasing the unity and strength of the local business community. The Chamber of Commerce’s commitment to honoring educators and supporting students reflects the organization’s dedication to fostering education and excellence in the community. By recognizing the contributions of teachers and students, the chamber reinforces the importance of education and the positive impact it has on individuals and society as a whole.
