CBS News Los Angeles recently covered a high-speed pursuit involving the Los Angeles Police Department and California Highway Patrol. The chase began in the South Gate and East Los Angeles area when a suspect ditched his stolen SUV and jumped into a waiting getaway car. What ensued was a dramatic pursuit involving two separate vehicles evading law enforcement.
The original suspect started the chase at relatively slow speeds, driving through red lights and even veering onto the wrong side of the road to avoid traffic. Despite officers‘ attempts to stop the suspect by deploying multiple spike strips, none were successful. The suspect continued to circle around the same area for over an hour before making a daring move by jumping into the passenger seat of another vehicle.
The getaway car driver wasted no time in speeding away, disregarding traffic laws and blowing through red lights. The suspects drove recklessly, weaving in and out of traffic and driving at dangerous speeds on the wrong side of the road. As the LAPD pursued them on the CA-110 northbound near Downtown Los Angeles, the suspects pushed their speeds even higher, endangering themselves and other motorists on the road.
The pursuit escalated as the suspects merged onto different freeways, with the California Highway Patrol taking over the chase. The suspects continued to evade law enforcement, speeding past other vehicles on LA’s busy freeways. Eventually, the pursuit led to an exit in Southeast LA and the Harbor Gateway area, where the suspects briefly converged with another pursuit in South LA before turning onto a side street.
The white getaway car eventually came to a stop on the eastbound 105 Freeway near the Norwalk Boulevard exit, bringing the high-speed chase to an end. The intense pursuit showcased the coordination and determination of law enforcement agencies in apprehending suspects who put the public at risk with their reckless actions.
