In a recent by-election in Nenggiri, Kelantan, Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, the Kelantan UMNO Youth chief, emerged victorious with a majority of 3,352 votes. Popularly known as ‘Awie,’ he expressed his gratitude to BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, and the voters for trusting him to be their representative in the constituency.
During a press conference after his win, Mohd Azmawi Fikri pledged to serve as a representative for all residents of Nenggiri, regardless of their race or political differences. He emphasized that this responsibility would be carried out to the best of his ability, as he had been chosen to represent everyone in the constituency.
“It was beyond my expectations… from the beginning, we were aware that we had lost by 810 votes in the last state election, and this is something I never anticipated,” Mohd Azmawi Fikri said, expressing surprise at winning with such a large majority. He acknowledged the support of the campaign machinery and the voters for his victory.
Looking ahead, Mohd Azmawi Fikri plans to meet with voters in Sungai Asap and other areas to understand their needs and concerns. He is committed to being a representative for everyone in Nenggiri, regardless of their political affiliations.
Despite being given the nickname ‘#BudakAwie’ by his opponents, Mohd Azmawi Fikri embraced it and acknowledged that it had made him popular among the locals. He expressed his gratitude to those who gave him the nickname and stated that the ‘#BudakAwie’ branding would continue to be a part of his identity.
