The Autumn Fair at Saffron Walden country house is set to be a spectacular event, running from August 30 to September 1. Tickets are available for purchase on the official website, www.bbcgardenersworldfair.com. One of the main attractions at the fair is the Beautiful Borders, which are compact, miniature show gardens that offer design ideas and creative inspiration for small or challenging garden spaces.
This year’s theme for the Beautiful Borders is ‚Share My Space‘, emphasizing the ability of gardening to foster a sense of community. The border named ‚Shared Ecologies‘ was crafted by Pete Buchanan and Libby Bettney, who are part of the English Heritage Historic and Botanic Garden training programme. Their border is designed to bring together plant, animal, and human communities in a small, well-tended space.
Pete and Libby shared their inspiration for the border, stating, „Our aim was to provide a shared habitat for a diverse collection of species while using plants with a shared edible and ornamental purpose. We have encouraged community cohesion and wellbeing through sharing plants and materials with local groups, promoting a sustainable and biodiverse future.“
In addition to the Beautiful Borders, the BBC Gardeners‘ World Autumn Fair will showcase a variety of gardens, plant displays, and the Association of Professional Landscapers‘ Skills Competition gardens. The BBC Gardeners‘ World Magazine stage will feature gardening discussions with presenters Adam Frost, Joe Swift, and Rachel de Thame.
The new Get Growing Stage will host daily sessions with expert produce growers, led by TV chef Marcus Bean. Attendees can also participate in Plant Expert garden tours, historical performances, and workshops on autumn bouquet-making, mushroom growing, seed sowing, and creating bug hotels.
Visitors can explore plant and garden stalls, sample food and drink at the Good Food Market, and enjoy full access to Audley End House, gardens, and grounds with their ticket purchase. Lucy Tremlett, head of the horticultural division at Immediate Live, organizers of the fair, expressed excitement for the event, stating, „Whether you’re an experienced gardener or a novice, the Autumn Fair offers a wealth of inspiration, expert advice, and a delightful day out for all.“
With its stunning setting, delicious food, live entertainment, and shopping opportunities, the Autumn Fair promises to be a memorable experience for garden enthusiasts and non-gardeners alike. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to explore the beauty and creativity of gardening at the Saffron Walden country house.
