Saudi Arabia is set to welcome a star-studded line-up of the world’s most powerful travel foodservice providers at King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in the near future. Riyadh Airports Company (RAC) recently awarded 25 locations across its international terminals 1, 2, and the T1-T2 Link after a highly competitive open tender process.
The tender packages offered a variety of sites, ranging from 35sq m to 667sq m in prime spots within T1 and T2 as well as the T1-T2 Link. The awards include five concessions covering a comprehensive coffee offer (premium, specialty, and Arabic), fine dining, premium and fast food, and grab-and-go options. T1 and T1-2 Link are expected to open around year-end, with T2 undergoing development for 12 months after T1 opens.
The food & beverage awards, all for five-year terms, are part of a larger makeover of the Riyadh gateway, which will also include specialist retail, luxury, lounge, and foreign exchange contracts across the three spaces. The commercial awards signify a significant transformation of the Riyadh gateway’s food & beverage proposition, introducing internationally renowned brands and catering to various sub-sectors and price points.
Three industry powerhouses – Avolta, Lagardère Travel Retail, and SSP – have been awarded contracts covering multiple locations, along with the powerful Riyadh-based business Olayan Food Division Company securing a concession in the Mezzanine T1 Link. These contracts bring a diverse range of top names to the Saudi airport sector, with several brands making their debut in the market.
The interest from major players in the industry highlights the immense potential they see in Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing tourism sector, driven by Vision 2030, the government’s transformative economic and social reform blueprint. This initiative aims to open up Saudi Arabia to the world, with tourism playing a pivotal role in the country’s development.
Abdulaziz Al-Asaker, Riyadh Airports Chief Commercial Officer, expressed excitement about the response to the tender packages and the commitment of the industry’s leading players. The development of King Khalid International Airport aligns with the goal of providing passengers with a true guest experience and showcasing the best of Saudi hospitality.
The awards include a range of concepts and brands, such as Burger King, FIX, Wolfgang Puck Kitchen + Bar, Dallahs Coffee, Giraffe, Jones Express, Costa, Hudson Café, Pret, Caffe Nero, Pizza Express, illy, Maison Kayser, and more. These offerings will enhance the consumer experience at KKIA and cater to a diverse range of preferences.
Following the food & beverage contracts, attention will shift to retail concessions at T1, T2, and the T1-2 Link, with contracts covering lounges, pharmacy, travel essentials, and luxury. The redevelopment of King Khalid International Airport is a significant project that aims to elevate the airport’s offerings and provide a world-class experience for travelers.
In conclusion, the transformation of King Khalid International Airport represents a major step forward in Saudi Arabia’s tourism and hospitality sector. The collaboration with top foodservice providers and the introduction of renowned brands will enhance the airport’s appeal and contribute to the country’s goal of becoming a leading destination for travelers worldwide.
