Joko Suranto, Ketua Umum Real Estat Indonesia (REI), was honored as the Real Estate Personality of the Year at the 10th PropertyGuru Indonesia Awards held at The Ritz-Carlton SCBD Jakarta on Friday, August 23, 2024. This prestigious award was given to Joko in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Indonesian property industry and his visionary leadership in shaping the future of real estate in the country.
PropertyGuru praised Joko for introducing a new paradigm in the property sector with his propertinomic approach, which emphasizes the role of the industry in driving economic growth. His commitment to enhancing the role of organizations and the property sector in Indonesia’s economic development was also a key factor in his selection for this prestigious award.
Born in Grobogan, Central Java, Joko Suranto has dedicated himself to the national property industry, particularly the housing subsector. At the awards ceremony, Joko expressed his gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the positive and inspiring atmosphere of the event. He noted that despite the challenges faced by the industry, there is a wealth of creative, innovative, and productive talent within the property sector, giving hope for its resurgence and prosperity.
As an alumnus of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Joko outlined three key priorities that REI is focusing on. Firstly, the association is working to convince the government that the property industry, especially housing, is a key driver of the national economy. Through the propertinomic approach, the sector is seen as an economic lever that can stimulate growth.
Secondly, REI is advocating for policies and regulations in the property sector to be more market-friendly, encouraging creativity and innovation among developers. Joko hopes that this approach will lead to the construction of better quality housing in the future.
Thirdly, REI is actively promoting environmental sustainability through its One Million Trees program, aimed at reducing carbon emissions and addressing climate change. This initiative requires all REI member developers to plant two trees for every housing unit they build, demonstrating their commitment to a greener future.
Joko’s career in the property business has been both inspiring and impressive. Starting as a bank employee in 1997, he took a bold step into the property industry at the age of 38 by founding Buana Kassiti Group. With a strong network of connections, Joko has led the company to success, developing 33 housing projects in West Java and West Sumatra, as well as ventures into hotels, resorts, finance, retail, and manufacturing.
Recently, Buana Kassiti Group was also recognized with the Prominent Awards 2024 for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Social Philanthropy, alongside multinational companies like Pertamina, Telkomsel, and Kalbe Farma. Joko’s achievements and dedication to the property industry have truly set him apart as a leader and innovator in the field.
