Jecheon City, located in South Korea, has recently announced a groundbreaking initiative to support the purchase of eco-friendly vehicles. The city, under the leadership of Mayor Kim Chang-gyu, has allocated funds to provide subsidies for a total of 1,059 eco-friendly cars and electric two-wheeled vehicles by the year 2024. This initiative aims to promote sustainability and reduce carbon emissions in the city.
The support program includes various types of eco-friendly vehicles, such as 550 electric passenger vehicles, 398 electric cargo vehicles, 8 electric passenger vehicles, 50 hydrogen vehicles, and 53 electric two-wheeled vehicles. The support amount is a combination of national and local government funds, with different subsidy amounts provided for each vehicle type. For example, electric passenger vehicles can receive up to 13.4 million won in subsidy, while electric cargo vehicles can receive up to 20.43 million won.
To be eligible for the subsidy, residents of Jecheon City must be 18 years or older and have purchased and registered an eco-friendly vehicle within the specified timeframe. Priority will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, households with three or more children under the age of 18 will receive an additional 10% of the national subsidy amount for the vehicle.
Applying for the subsidy is a straightforward process. Residents need to sign a purchase contract with an automobile manufacturer or importer and submit it through the ‚Emission-free Car Purchase Subsidy Support System‘. Detailed criteria and schedules can be found on the Jecheon City Hall website and the Eco-free Car Integrated Portal.
A city official emphasized the importance of expanding the charging infrastructure to support the growing number of eco-friendly vehicles in the city. They encouraged citizens to show interest and participate in the initiative to create a more sustainable environment for future generations.
