Burhill Group sees a 9% increase in rounds played in Q2 according to Golf Business News

Burhill Group Limited Golf, a prominent multi-course operator in the UK, has recently announced impressive growth in rounds played for the second quarter of 2024. This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the challenging environment faced by the golf industry in recent times.

In the second quarter of 2024, BGL reported a remarkable 9% increase in rounds played compared to the same period the previous year. This stands in stark contrast to the national average, which experienced a 5% decline in rounds played during the same timeframe. Despite adverse weather conditions in April, which led to a 14% drop in the national average of rounds played, BGL managed to achieve a 4.5% increase in rounds played for that month.

BGL’s portfolio of golf clubs includes well-known venues such as Abbey Hill, Burhill, Birchwood Park, Hoebridge, Redbourne, Ramsdale Park, The Shropshire, Thornbury, and Wycombe Heights. These clubs have collectively contributed to the company’s success and growth in rounds played.

Guy Riggott, the COO of BGL Golf, expressed his delight at the exceptional performance in Q2, attributing it to the hard work of the entire team. He emphasized that outperforming the wider industry by such a significant margin is a clear indication that BGL is moving in the right direction. Colin Mayes, the CEO of BGL, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the positive impact of the company’s investments in facilities and commitment to customer satisfaction.

The success of BGL was particularly evident in the south of England, where each month of the quarter saw an increase of more than 10% in total rounds played compared to the previous year. The South experienced a remarkable 14% growth for the quarter, far surpassing the 2% average across the region.

In the Midlands region, where the average figure for rounds played in May 2024 had declined to -5.5% compared to the previous year, BGL venues once again outperformed the average. Rounds played increased by more than 3% compared to May 2023. Overall, BGL saw a 14.1% increase in rounds played compared to the national average for Q2 2024.

The impressive growth in rounds played by BGL Golf in the second quarter of 2024 showcases the company’s resilience and commitment to excellence. With a strong performance across its portfolio of golf clubs, BGL has demonstrated its ability to thrive in a challenging environment and continue to attract golfers to its venues.
