CDI Encourages Students to Seek Career Advice on Results Day and Beyond

As A level, T Level, and BTEC students across England and Wales eagerly await their exam results, the Career Development Institute (CDI) is offering reassurance to those who may not have received the grades they were hoping for. CDI Chief Executive, David Morgan, emphasizes the importance of celebrating the efforts and achievements of all students, regardless of their results, and wishes them the best for their future endeavors.

For students who may be feeling disappointed or unsure about their next steps, seeking support from their school or college Careers Adviser is highly recommended. These professionals are trained to provide impartial and expert advice on various academic and vocational pathways, as well as the potential career opportunities that may arise from them. By reaching out to a Careers Adviser, students can explore their options and make informed decisions based on their interests, learning preferences, and personal circumstances.

In addition to seeking guidance from school or college Careers Advisers, students can also access the careers services available across the UK, such as England’s National Careers Service, Careers Wales, Careers Service Northern Ireland, and Skills Development Scotland. These services offer valuable resources and support to help individuals navigate their career paths and make informed decisions about their future.

While exam results day is a significant milestone for young people, the CDI emphasizes the importance of ongoing career development support throughout one’s professional journey. Career development professionals can provide assistance with career changes, redundancy, and retirement planning, helping individuals evaluate their career goals, acquire necessary skills, and overcome obstacles in their career progression.

The CDI recently conducted a survey of over 5,000 UK adults to better understand the impact of career guidance on individuals. Preliminary findings suggest that there is a lack of awareness about the services offered by career guidance practitioners, such as the National Careers Service in England. However, those who have utilized career guidance services report significant benefits, including a better understanding of their career options and improved application skills.

As young people receive their exam results, the CDI encourages them to seek ongoing support from a variety of sources, including their educational institutions, public careers services, employers, and qualified career development professionals listed on the UK Register of Career Development Professionals. By investing in their career development and seeking guidance from experienced professionals, individuals can enhance their career prospects and contribute to the overall growth and success of the economy and society.
